michigan. jurors in california watched a video of the man accused of killing l.a. angels pitcher vizio, which he admits he did a horrible thing. he admitted to killing nick adenhart in a drunk driving accident. gallo said the entire night was a big blur and didn't remember how the accident happened. a young maryland politician is fighting for her life. maryland state police say the driver of this cadillac escalade hit natasha pettygrew on sunday morning while she was riding her bike near prince george's community college. she is the green party candidate running in november. the driver thought she hit a an -- an animal and kept right on going, even though the bicycles with lodged under her suv.

a ambition to put the cell phone down for teen-agers might not be working. peggy fox spoke with teen-agers from fairfax who don't think texting and driving is all that bad. >> reporter: on any busy road you can watch drivers texting behind the wheel. like this man who is at a light and doesn't even look up when he starts moving forward. and now new worry that's young people are not getting the message that it's dangerous. >> you do it while you are driving? >> yeah. >> moving? >> i'm good at using the knee. >> you're none honest man. >> i know it's bad. i know it's terrible. sometimes i probably need to turn off my phone, i know. >> reporter: out of four george mason college students randomly chosen, two say they do not text. >> it takes a second to get in an accident. >> if i hear my phone go off, i'll wait until i stop. >> reporter: one admitted he got into an accident while texting. >> i was trying to rush and let someone know i was going to be

late so it just kind of added on to everything. >> reporter: they all felt driving wife intoxicate -- driving while intoxicating is worst, but it's just as dangerous according to research. >> the best thing to do is turn it off while driving or put your phone on silent. and now you can down loan an app which puts it on silent and sends the sender a message you are driving. >> if you are on a cell phone and dialing a number and texting a message within five seconds while you are driving, the 4,000-pound vehicle that you are driving goes the length of a football field, when you are not paying attention. >> reporter: ray la hood is hosting the second annual distracted driving summit tomorrow. the company called text kills which has the new app will be there and so will family members of victims who have been killed because of someone texting while driving. in fairfax, peggy fox, 9 news now.

out to 7100, still about a 20 minute drive. and finally over 267, the dulles toll road. a lot of congestion around tysons corner but breaking up nicely at hunter mill and smooth sailing out to the dulles airport. back to you. we have another commuter alert for you tonight about the douglas bridge. after being closed all weekend long, now the bridge will be closed every night between now and september 30th, still part of the structural repair work. tonight, tomorrow night, wednesday and saturday night and then next monday through wednesday night, the span will close from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. thursday and sunday the hour are 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on friday night 11:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. no traffic on the douglas. that work is all weather permitting. but if the weather is anything like today, that won't be a problem. let's get out to topper on the terrace with your forecast first. >> just spectacular. temperatures today about average. and low humidity. a great evening.

the metropolitan transportation said moving it away would save $600 million. the plan is to figure out how to say on the dulles rail project. as for the airport authority, there may be trouble out there. two senators are calling for hearings into the agency, it's finances and how it runs reagan national which we're looking at live even as we speak. you see their a bit upset about the plans to increase the number of long haul flights and those plans have been held up. the airport authority argues it would hurt traffic at dulles which would impact funding for the metro extension and reagan national could not handle the  extra security, the parking and baggage handling for the longer flights. i, for one, love to head out on my bike when the weather is nice. but that two-wheeled transportation can be pricey. and that is one of the reasons d.c. and arlington have launched the country's largest bike sharing system and they did it today. capital bike share is putting 1100 bikes and rental stations
